We're on a mission to simplify international logistics so people everywhere can share what matters, across borders.

Our Origin

Where it all began

This business was born from the shared vision of an international couple — our Japanese CEO Nozomi Ashizawa and our Norwegian CTO Daniel Dyrnes.

Nozomi sends gifts to Norway several times a year, a habit that continues to this day. But each time, she ran into the complexity of international shipping — tedious paperwork and the frustration of not being able to deliver things smoothly. That experience slowly grew into a real sense of mission.

From that frustration, a question took shape: "How could anyone, anywhere, ship internationally with ease?" And so the concept emerged — simplify complex international shipping so people around the world can share their feelings through the things they send.

Through her work, Nozomi also received many requests to build sales tools tailored for foreign visitors to Japan. When that external need met her own personal experience, a new challenge was born.

That's how our company concept — "Sharing feelings with the world, through things" — came to life. This is the origin of ShipMate today.

Nozomi Ashizawa

Nozomi Ashizawa

Co-Founder / CEO

Studied international nursing at Toho University's School of Nursing and founded TRY-JIN Inc. after graduating in 2015, running a studio in Shibuya, Tokyo. In 2017, launched Alajin Pte. Ltd. in Singapore, providing real estate marketing for foreign visitors to Japan. After buying out both companies, relocated to Hokkaido in 2020 and founded Petrichor Inc. (now ShipMate Inc.), leading system development, inbound marketing, and regional revitalization projects with local governments.

Daniel Dyrnes

Co-Founder / CTO

Over 10 years of experience in IT development, working as a system architect across Norway, Singapore, Korea, Japan, and Malaysia. Brings more than 6 years of experience as VP/CTO. Specialized in full-stack development and system architecture. Favorite languages: React and Go.

Majored in Computer Science at San Jose State University. After seven years in the U.S., returned to Japan and joined a Web3 / blockchain startup. Later joined ShipMate as COO.

CFO

Completed a graduate degree at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Public Policy and joined UBS Securities in 2020, working in the General Industries Group of Investment Banking. After serving as CFO of a Hokkaido-based startup, he joined ShipMate as CFO. Has international experience in South Korea and Switzerland.
